'RAINBOW BADGERS' came from an experiment with a more textured, emotional background, in contrast to the more sterile, neutral spaces used in much of my work. The technique allowed a more expressive use of colour, with the added 'bursting swatch' of red adding drama. To realise the Badgers, I opted for a technique involving white brush strokes as a base layer, over which I added a 'glaze' of various transparent colours to achieve the desired effect. This piece was painted for - and sold by - the Viva! charity. This remarkable organisation campaigns for wildlife rights across the world and I was honoured and delighted to see my work benefit their cause.
