Toucan

A companion work to my very successful Hyacinth Macaw, I did this cheeky Toucan in oils. Above all, I’m paying close attention to his beautiful, iridescent blue eye and the textures & tones in his fabulous beak. In addition, I should also mention how pleased I am with his plumage; an effect that was surprisingly hard to get right, I admit; lots of shading experiments in there!

There’s something endearing about a Toucan; the way they’re almost proud of the dexterity it takes to use that beak to eat fruit & insects. I’m VERY pleased with the end result and hope you are, too!
