Count Pugsley

I think I get asked to paint Pugs more than any other breed of dog. Whilst I don’t usually undertake ‘pet portraits’, there’s something about a Pug that draws me in: must be those saucer-like eyes! Count Pugsley took forever to come together, though. I had the eyes down first but couldn’t decide how to move things further: ‘Should it go this way or that?’

In the end, I settled on an elegant Elizabethan-style ruff and everything flowed from there. I LOVE the way his Peacock-feather turned out as a finishing touch! Oh, and special mention for the wallpaper, that I adapted from a classic ‘Fleur-de-Lys’ pattern.
