Journey's End

‘Journey’s End’ carries much symbolism for Gary & I; give me a minute and I’ll explain!

You see, the Fox has reached the shoreline after a long pilgrimage. The glow-worm at the end of his engraved staff, shines out into the stormy night as gulls wheel in the gales. Off to the right, a galleon sails into view; its canvas glowing from beacons that answer the Fox’s call.

He is going home…

Whatever he found on his journey is of more importance value to him, than the upturned treasure chest. Look at his foot-steps in the sand: they go nowhere near the chest!

It’s a soulful, almost spiritual piece, this one. Inspired by Gary’s love of long-distance hikes, I wanted to capture something of the emotional journey that such treks inspire. It might a cliché, but it’s true: it’s often not the destination, but the journey that matters. And all ‘Journey’s End’…

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone I know. Chances are, it’s had an impact on your life, as well. I wanted this work to weave a spell of hope. A sense that salvation is always closer to-hand, than we think; there’s often a light, guiding us to safety, if we close our minds to the noise of life and let it come to us…
