His frisking...

‘His frisking…’ has been a long time coming together.

I’ve had the original work – pen and watercolour on a sheet of watercolour paper – for a VERY long time… But as is familiar with my working life, pictures are often abandoned before they reach their full potential. Either I just run out of inspiration or something newer and shinier comes along!

Then, after years hidden away in a drawer, my partner Gary, came across this marvellous poem by William Cowper. ‘Epitaph For a Hare’ is the perfect accompaniment to this gentle, enigmatic sketch. The presentation of the poem’s text is all-important, of course, and I think we’ve found a perfect compromise here, with a blend of elegance and legibility. ‘I Spied a Hare’ has found and delighted the hearts of many, many collectors over the years and I’m sure that ‘His frisking…’ will follow suit.
