Ladybird

I painted this simple Ladybird, sat upon a leaf, as an experimental piece. I had in-mind a potential Fantasy idea, but needed to see if I could suggest the glossy sheen of an insect’s carapace. Given the house was overrun with Ladybirds / Ladybugs at the time, it seemed an obvious choice. The end-result turned out so well, I thought I should make prints of it!

The trick I discovered, was using very thin glazes of water-based oil paint. Applied sparingly, they allow under-painting to shine through with vibrant effect. As a result, the red-orange of the Ladybird really ‘pops’ against the soft green of the leaf. The result is a striking, almost graphic work with bold shapes, textures and colours. A very pleasing work.

  • Prints

    All of my OPEN or LIMITED EDITION PRINTS, are printed by my (superb) photographer onto archival paper. Depending on the suitability of the image, they come in either THREE or FOUR sizes:  Mini: An Open Edition, that’s hand-monogrammed on the Matte.  Small: Ready-mounted & signed in an edition of #195.   Medium: Ready-mounted & signed in an edition of #95.   Large: Un-Mounted & signed in an edition of #49.   Frames shown for illustrative purposes only.
