Out of the White

I just love the stoic expression on this Polar Bear as he trudges ‘OUT OF THE WHITE’.

This work started life as an exploration in tone. About how we ‘know’ the bear’s coat looks white. This, despite there being more yellows and purples in the Bear’s coat, than white space. It just shows how much the eye can be fooled by illusion! Above all, I was very satisfied with the way this one turned-out. Everything about it, from the tones to the pose & attitude of the Bear, felt ‘right’ once I’d finished. In conclusion, it really does give the impression that the Bear has loomed out of the snowy maelstrom beyond…
