Snow Hares

‘SNOW HARES’ is the happy result of an experiment in texture.

I started off with a sheet of watercolour paper, onto which I slathered a thick acrylic base coat. Whilst it was still workable, I then scribed with an old Dentist’s tool. That got me the coarse etching feel. After that, I painted the Arctic Hares on-top. My original intention was to colour them naturalistically. However, in the end, I kept them neutral to the surroundings and gave ground to a subdued feel & palette. (It was also snowing at the time, so inspiration wasn’t hard to find). What I still like about this one, is how the weave of the paper has managed to come-through in our photography. It’s a subtle touch but it adds yet more texture to Snow Hares.
