The Passenger

I don’t know why I chose to make ‘The Passenger’ such a whimsical piece.  Giraffes just look gawky & funny to me sometimes!

Looking back on the work now, what pleases me most, is the subtle presence of ‘The Passenger’ itself: a Yellow-Billed Oxpecker. Even now, I’m amazed how many viewers don’t notice its presence at first glance!

I’m also satisfied with the fine brush-work in the work. I have memories of hours spent painting-in all those tufts of hair around its ears & mouth. Special mention should also be made of those massive, limpid eyes; they add such placid, gentle character notes to the work.
