Blue Otter

BLUE OTTER came out of yet another experiment!

My work has long been known for its use of unexpected – and expressive – use of colour. However, this one uses a deep, deep blue that allows the Otter to really ‘pop’ off the board. In addition, I’m using tightly interwoven white brush strokes as a base layer. Over these, I add a faint ‘glaze’ of subtle transparent colours. It’s the same trick I used in my ‘Rainbow Hares’ to such good effect.

In conclusion, I’m thrilled with the way this one turned-out. It might just be the best Otter I’ve done yet? Either way, I hope to learn the lessons learnt here to further explore this subject in the future.
