The Scent of Water

Originally, The Scent of Water was a sombre study in ochres & fawns. It lacked a detailed background and the Otter itself, felt ‘under-painted’. As a result, it languished for years. Another picture with unfulfilled potential.

However, things changed when I decided to update the work with what’s become my signature style. That means lots of subtle (and not so subtle) purples & teals, coupled with fine-grain textures. Such unexpected colours lift the subject and add interest where there was none before.

If The Scent of Water proves anything, it’s this: that just because a picture doesn’t work today, it just might, tomorrow… So never give up on it!
